The problem:
With the current UI, a user must open a Transmittal and navigate to the Documents tab to see if the documents have been imported. They then must click the 'Import' button. For a Document Controller on a project this is borderline unusable. If there are 500+ transmittals on a project, how is a document controller supposed to know what has and hasn't been imported? Are they supposed to open every transmittal one by one and check? This is an enormous waste of time and money.
With this issue, I cannot recommend using ProjectWise within our organisation on any projects larger than a road upgrade. This excludes ProjectWise from all of our multibillion dollar major projects.
My Suggestion:
I propose adding a column called "Documents Imported". Within this column it will say "yes, with a link to the location" or "No, with an 'Import now" button.
Additional feature would be an "Import all" button that would import documents from all transmittal's that haven't yet been imported.
With this setup, a document controller can simply scroll through the list of Transmittals and see what needs importing.
Practical use of functionality?
The proposed functionality significantly enhances efficiency for document controllers managing large projects in Bentley ProjectWise. By introducing a "Documents Imported" column with clear indicators ("Yes" with a link to the location or "No" with an 'Import Now' button), users can quickly identify and act on transmittals requiring attention. The addition of an "Import All" button further streamlines bulk processing, reducing the need for repetitive manual checks. Key benefits:

What is the impact of not doing this?
Failure to implement this feature results in substantial inefficiencies:
Implementing this feature would provide a more intuitive, user-friendly, and cost-effective document management process in Bentley ProjectWise. |
